Chris Rock’s younger brother has spoken out and demanded Will Smith be stripped of his Best Actor Oscar.
During the 94th Academy Awards, Hollywood legend Will Smith sparked outrage after storming the stage and slapping presenter Chris Rock in the face over his joke about Jada Pinkett’s baldness.
Following his bold actions, Will Smith has resigned from the Academy and publicly apologized to Rock and the viewers. He has since also been facing a ban from the Academy’s future events, whereas a formal review of the on-air assault is in process.
Now, Rock’s younger brother, Kenny, spoke out to Los Angeles Times and blasted Will Smith and his apology.
“It eats at me watching it over and over again because you’ve seen a loved one being attacked and there’s nothing you can do about it,” the 42-year-old expressed.
“Every time I’m watching the videos, it’s like a rendition that just keeps going over and over in my head.”
He added: “My brother was no threat to him and you just had no respect for him at that moment. You just belittled him in front of millions of people that watch the show.”
Kenny went on to call on the Academy to take away Smith’s Oscar saying the actor “should have been escorted out of there” the moment he attacked his brother.
“I might have looked at it differently had he initially apologized when he got on the stage and cried and accepted the award, but he didn’t, so, right there that tells me that it is something else,” the 42-year-old said of Smith’s late apology.
Kenny also took the opportunity to hit out at the Academy for not taking any immediate actions to deal with the assault on his brother.
“I hold them accountable for that. He could have went up there and did anything you wanted to my brother. It could have been much worse than what he did,” he insisted.
