A new and highly infectious strain of COVID-19 has given rise to a spike in hospitalizations in China, and now, it’s spread to the US.
Cases have reached New York City, as per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The latest variant was first detected in America during the latter part of March and early April among international travelers arriving at airports in California, Washington, Virginia, and New York City. Now, additional cases were reported in Ohio, Rhode Island, and Hawaii.
The CDC shared how there are too few cases in America to be properly tracked down in the agency’s variant estimates, but experts are sending out a warning that the virus’s run in China shows that it spreads faster than other dominant strains of the respiratory infection.
Experts have been busy tracking this NB variant after it became the dominant strain in China this year, with cases surging all over Asia.
Hong Kong authorities say COVID-19 cases rose to the worst levels in at least a year after officials announced a massive increase in emergency room visits and hospitalizations in the past month due to the variant. This is why there is more panic among those in the US, as cases are on the rise.
