In response to the latest US Congressional visit to the country, China immediately began conducting military drills near Taiwan.

It has also been revealed that Beijing will deploy Chinese J-20 stealth fighters to patrol the South China Sea which is, in part, shared with countries including Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

As the People’s Liberation Army has since claimed, the purpose of the sudden military drills in the region is to counter “wrong signals” that the United States has been sending by showing support for Taiwan and its independence.

“This operation is in response to the recent frequent release of wrong signals by the United States on the Taiwan issue,” Shi Yilu, a spokesperson for the Liberation Army Eastern Theater Command, said.

While Yilu didn’t mention the US lawmakers and their visit specifically, it is believed that Beijing was angered by the recent US Congressional visit to Taiwan.

The United States – though without formal ties to Taiwan – has long been backing the country’s independence and served as a guarantor of its security.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Communist Party’s ambitions have long been to reconnect the island state with China under one government.
