Two staff members were killed in Washington, DC at night near the Capital Jewish Museum.
According to reports from local media outlets, the news was confirmed by the Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, who also shared the identification of the victims.
She mentioned that they were staffers from the Israeli Embassy who were senselessly targeted tonight. She also mentioned in the post on X how they are currently busy investigating and working to get more data to share.
Speaking during the press conference, the Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith explained how she believes the shooting was carried out by a single suspect who is now in police custody.
The suspect was named as 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez, who hails from Chicago. He happened to be pacing back and forth outside the museum, right before he approached a group of four individuals and produced a handgun while opening fire and hitting both the decedents.
After the shooting was done, Smith explained how the suspect entered the museum and was detained shortly after that.
The suspect implied that he carried out the offense, and after getting handcuffed, he mentioned to security officers where the weapon was located, which they soon recovered shortly after that.
