A captured commander from the Russian armed forces was reportedly shown on viral footage begging for mercy.
According to local media outlets, the war prisoner pleaded for forgiveness and whatever the Russian forces were doing to Ukraine, after being forced to give an interview in front of the press recently.
Moreover, the commander shed light on how so many of the Russian commanders and soldiers were being brainwashed into taking part in the war.
“They brainwashed us.
We are ashamed of all that we have done and all that Russia is currently doing to Ukraine. We were duped into attacking Ukraine with the false belief that their government had been overthrown by the Nazis.
They told us we needed to liberate Ukraine and that’s the belief that most of us have”- he added. The man was identified as a lieutenant colonel who hailed from Russia’s national guard’s special ‘rapid response unit’ force.
“Now that we have seen the ongoing situation in Ukraine with our own eyes, we can firmly say that we were brainwashed into thinking about something that never existed. I’m more than ashamed for taking part in this, it’s nothing less than a genocide”- the commander further stated.
In the same way, the commander commended the efforts of the Ukrainian forces, adding how they had every right to defend their nation and they were moving on in an immaculate manner.
“They have the right to resist and they’re doing it”- he mentioned.
The commander introduced himself by the name of Astakhov Dmitry Mikhailovich, adding how the doubts in his solidified after he saw two of Ukraine’s renowned boxers fight it out for the control of Kyiv.
In the end, the commander concluded by stating how he begs Russia to stop the war immediately before it’s too late because he strongly felt that Russia wouldn’t be able to win here.
