Cameron Diaz has weighed in on the idea of married people sleeping in separate bedrooms and revealed what the situation is like in her marriage.
The 51-year-old actress, who is married to musician Benji Madden, 44, made some controversial comments as she told model and actress Molly Sims that having separate bedrooms should be normalized in marriages.
Speaking to Sims and co-host Emese Gormley on their podcast, Diaz said: “We should normalize separate bedrooms. To me, I would literally, I have my house, you have yours. We have the family house in the middle. I will go and sleep in my room. You go sleep in your room. I’m fine.”
“And we have the bedroom in the middle that we can convene in for our relations,” she added.
After Sims admitted that Diaz’s comments may raise some eyebrows, the actress appeared to backtrack on her previous statement saying that’s how she felt prior to her marriage with Benji.
“By the way, I don’t feel that way now because my husband is so wonderful. I said that before I got married,” Cameron added.
Diaz and Madden, the Good Charlotte vocalist and guitarist, tied the knot in 2015 just ten months after first meeting each other thanks to an introduction made by Nicole Richie.
The Mask star previously gushed over her partner in 2021 while appearing in Anna Faris’ podcast.
“When I saw… who he was, that’s what made me really be like, ‘Oh you, you’re special, you’re the guy, you’re the hidden gem in my life,’” she said as she admitted she found the musician “so hot.”
In 2020, the couple welcomed their first child, a baby girl named Raddix.
“I’m so grateful and so happy and it’s the best thing ever and I’m so lucky to do it with Benj and we’re having the best time. I’m thrilled. I can’t believe it,” the actress said of her new life as a mother.
