President Trump was seen celebrating the demolition of the East Wing while hosting a Republican senator at the White House on Tuesday.
The lunch gathering inside the Rose Garden marked the 21st day of the government shutdown. While the President briefly touched on the stalemate in Washington, he did spend the beginning of his remarks touting the renovations taking place at the 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
The news comes as a wrecking crew this week started to tear down part of the East Wing to make way for Trump’s giant ballroom, despite the president insisting in July that his plans would not interfere with the current building.
‘You probably hear the beautiful sound of construction to the back’- Trump shared with senators on Tuesday. ‘You hear that sound? Oh, that’s music to my ears. I love that sound!’- he continued.
The mega project will reportedly cost $250 million to build and Trump shared how all private funds would be put into use and no taxpayer’s money would be considered.
In the past, he did share that this was coming from private donors but now says he will be using private founds from lawsuits that he’s won. “I want you all to know that the government is paying nothing’- he boldly declared to senators.
