While he credited his unrivaled business skills to his good fortune, Ozer was now found guilty of a series of charges including fraud, money laundering, and organized crime.

Among other schemes he had carried out during his short-lived career, the Turkish man stole millions of dollars by swindling investors.

In 2021, after his business collapsed, Ozer ran away with the investors’ funds and hid in Albania for two years before he was found when Interpol issued a red notice.

After getting extradited to Turkey, Ozer began facing criminal charges severe enough for him never to walk as a free man again.

Maintaining his innocence in the court, he said: “I am smart enough to manage all institutions in the world. This is evident from the company I founded at the age of 22. If I were to establish a criminal organization, I would not act so amateurishly.”

On Thursday, Ozer was sentenced to a hefty prison term of 11,196 years after the prosecutors requested a 40,562-year sentence.

Found guilty of fraud, money laundering, and organized crime were also Ozer’s sister, Serap, and brother, Guven.

While these jail terms may sound out of this world, such sentences are fairly common in Turkey and were popularized after the country was forced to abolish the death penalty in hopes of joining the European Union.
