A bus carrying at least 50 refugees from Ukraine has reportedly overturned in Italy this morning.
According to local media reports, one young woman was killed while dozens of others were injured after the bus suddenly flipped.
Firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene of the tragedy during the hours of the early morning while a giant crane could be seen making its way to the site of the crash to life up the giant vehicle.
Initial reports claim that at least several people were injured after the bus landed on its side with all of the passengers on board.
“They were all fleeing from the war. The bus had overturned on the major highway”- explained one witness.
The exact location of the incident was identified as the A14 highway near Forli which is considered to be a town in the Emilia-Romagna region in the country’s northeastern province.
“It happened before 7 am today, firefighters were trying to extract the young woman’s body as she was dead”- another eyewitness explained tragically.
Before the incident had taken place, the bus had made its way out of war-torn Ukraine and was reportedly heading towards the south to Pescara which is a port city, as revealed by the Italian Interior Ministry, shortly after the incident.
Emergency services could be seen trying hard to make use of two mobile cranes that would be able to set the bus which continued to lie on its side while landing on a grassy slope nearby. The workers struggled to turn the vehicle upright and remove it.
After the rescue efforts, the passengers were immediately taken to a closely located police barrack so they could be assisted further and would then be allowed to resume their journey, afterward.
At least 35,000 refugees from Ukraine have entered Italy through the northeastern border that the country shares via Slovenia, confirmed reports.
