Kimber Mills, who is an 18-year-old senior at Cleveland High School in Alabama, was shot at a bonfire gathering in Pinson early on Sunday.
The incident arose at a wooded hangout called the Pit, and as per local media outlets, a 27-year-old man named Tyler Whitehead is said to have entered the area, harassed members of the group, and opened fire following a confrontation that broke out.
Mills suffered a serious brain trauma and was placed on life support. Medical staff concluded that there were no viable surgical options to restore meaningful brain function, as per sources.
Her family decided to withdraw life support and proceed with organ donation, fulfilling Kimber’s wish to assist others. An Honor Walk was scheduled as she was transported for the donation surgery. Three more people were wounded in this shooting.
This includes a 21-year-old man, an 18-year-old man, and a 20-year-old woman. Whitehead was arrested and initially charged with attempted murder of three victims. Those charges could be upgraded after Kimber’s death, sources shared.
The family has received immense love and support from the community and a GoFundMe has been opened up in her honor as loved ones united during this tragic time. Many say she will always be remembered for her loving, friendly, and bubbly nature.
