An 11-year-old boy was fatally shot in the head while he was playing with a handgun in New York’s Hudson Valley during the early hours of Thursday.
This incident put all of the city’s Newburgh’s schools on lockdown as cops swarmed into the neighborhood.
Newburgh police shared more details on this front, including a release on how the cops responded to a home on North Miller Street at about 8:17 am regarding reports of a shooting incident and found a young boy dead inside the residence.
The scene is a block away from the Bishop Dunn Memorial School, and this prompted district officials to order the safety measures as a precaution.
Sources speaking to News12 mentioned how the youngster and a few of his friends were busy playing with a handgun when the weapon went off and hit him in the head.
School officials assured all of the panicked parents that no students inside the school were hurt and that this lockdown was lifted shortly after noon. The Newburgh Police Department didn’t identify the boy and hasn’t officially rolled out any details regarding the matter.
