Bryson Funk passed away on June 12 after suffering from a serious cardiac event earlier that day, as per the GoFundMe campaign that started in his name.
The Dauphin County boy was a pitcher who hailed from the Linglestown Colts, as per the CBS Affiliate WHP. His teammate was 9-year-old Elias Vilfort, who claimed that Funk struck out the last batter of the game on June 11 to try and win that championship.
The next day, Funk went into an event of cardiac arrest brought on by myocarditis, as per the GoFundMe organizer, who is a cousin of Funk’s mother.
The family shared with WHP how Funk was born with an abnormality on his heart and a deformed bicuspid aortic valve. However, the doctors mentioned they did not believe the boy’s death was related to such conditions.
Family members’ hearts are broken by Funk’s sudden death. Writing in the description for the GoFundMe, the project was said to have gained more than $45,000 in donations.
Funk pitched the last three innings of this game before striking out the final batter for this amazing championship win.
