The birthright citizenship debate ended up exploding into a moment of national discourse recently after President Donald Trump signed an executive order that banned this.
Trump’s ban was said to take effect February 19 but as per a federal judge located in Seattle, he was seen blocking the order on a temporary basis.
As per some experts, the issue will get settled by the Supreme Court in the end but that cannot disguise the fact that so many illegal migrants continue to enter the country and in 2023, they gave birth to 250,000 people who now hold American citizenship rights.
If this birthright citizenship ban does come into play, it will impact tens of thousands of people born to illegal migrants, sources shared.
The Center for Immigration Studies shared on Friday how this was all related to preliminary findings. Around 225,000 to 250,000 arose in 2023 so the figure continues to rise as we speak.
That’s nearly 7% of the total births seen in America during that year. To put more things into context, the group claims such figures are more than the total figure of births in all but two states taken individually.
Moreover, it seems like more kids were born to illegal migrant parents than to those legal noncitizens. The figures for 2024 are yet to be shared but they might be even more than before. It will give rise to a higher surge of illegal migrants into the nation under Biden’s administration.
