Johnny Depp’s bodyguard has testified and recalled the time the Hollywood star went from happy and lovey-dovey to quiet.
Malcolm Connolly, who started working as Depp’s bodyguard in 2006, took the stand in his boss’s defamation trial against Amber Heard remotely from his home in the UK.
Presenting strong allegations against the actress, Connolly revealed how the couple went from being “lovey-dovey” and “happy” to arguing more often following their honeymoon.
As he insisted, Johnny grew increasingly “quiet” after his wife became more “dominant,” “feisty,” and “demanding.”
“At the beginning [it was] all lovey-dovey. Everything was great. Honeymoon period was on, and yeah it was good,” Connolly testified.
“It was great to see Johnny happy again. Amber was lovely, charming – as she usually is – and good as gold.”
Sometime after the couple’s honeymoon, however, everything started falling apart.
“Amber started to change. Amber started getting a bit more feisty, demanding. I could see that Amber wanted to wear the pants in this relationship. That was pretty obvious,” the security guard recalled.
He added that as Amber “started getting grumpy,” Johnny became “quieter” than usual.
Connolly also testified that he often heard the celebrity couple argue. “I could hear Amber screaming. I could hear shouting and bawling,” he said as he pointed out he mostly heard Amber doing the screaming.
While the security guard admitted he never saw the couple physically fight each other, he recalled the time Depp’s face was covered in scratches and swelling.
“What I noticed straight away was most of these marks were happening on the left hand side of his face,” Connolly said.
“There would be scratches on his neck. Maybe a fat lip in the corner, a bruising in the eye socket. It was getting more regular. Not every week, but it was definitely happening.”
These allegations were also backed up by an old photo showing Depp’s swollen nose and bruises underneath his eyes.
The photo was allegedly taken by Connolly during the couple’s honeymoon.
