10 people have reportedly lost their lives after a boat carrying tourists capsized in China yesterday.
According to reports from local media outlets, the search and rescue mission is still on, as many other tourists are still unaccounted for.
The passenger boats overturned on a river in the tourist attraction in Qianxi city of the Guizhou province, as per local media outlets.
More than 70 people were thrown into the water, and 60 people were hospitalized following this tragedy, as per local authorities.
The report did not immediately offer more details about the kind of attraction or the circumstances surrounding this incident.
Rescue workers were now on the lookout for 14 more people reported missing on Sunday night.
As per the provincial fire and rescue department, 83 divers and 16 underwater robots were deployed in the search for survivors.
An official statement spoke about how 248 rescue personnel, including divers and 24 vessels, had been mobilized in this rescue operation. The country’s president urged all-out efforts to look for those still missing and to treat those injured in this incident.
Xi also shared the importance of making stronger safety measures at tourist attractions and other leading public venues.
