Former Major League Baseball star Tony Blanco was reportedly killed while trying to save his pal and former baseball star Esteban German.
Sources shared how he was hit by falling debris that led to his death.
German was reportedly returning to his table from the bathroom when Blanco pushed him out of the way of a part of the falling ceiling, as per sources from the Dominican Republic media.
Blanco was killed in the tragedy, but German ended up surviving in the end, miraculously.
The disaster took place at the Jet Set Club in Santo Domingo at about 12:44 am local time on Tuesday, which has now claimed the lives of nearly 100 people. More than 200 were said to be injured.
Blanco played for the Washington Nationals in 2005 before spending eight seasons in Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan. Octavio Dotel was the other MLB player killed in the incident. Earlier on Tuesday, he was reported as having been rescued from the rubble after screaming for help.
