Singing sensation Shakira has the world talking after selling millions of records for her hit tracks.
But a recent incident has left fans furious because they feel so upset after the grand unveiling of a statue that was designed in honor of the star.
The Grammy award winner from Columbia is one of the world’s leading musicians and now she has been immortalized in her famous belly dancing pose at her hometown in Barranquilla.
The city’s mayor Jaime Pumerejo took part in the grand unveiling that featured the massive 21-foot sculpture inside a part. This was along the banks of the Magdalena River on Tuesday.
The singer’s parents were also present there and it just set the stage for a very heartwarming ordeal. But the details fell short of many people’s expectations.
Artist Yino Marquez who designed the famous statue says his goal behind the unveiling was to prove to so many young females that they can do whatever they want, provided they put their minds to it. “You can pursue any dream if you try”- he added.
The artist says he got the inspiration to pay homage to the celeb because he used to watch her sing at local kids’ concerts. The passion and hard work she puts into her songs and performances is truly unmatched, the artist added.
Therefore, he feels what better way to give back to the community than by honoring the celeb who continues to work so hard to please the masses?
The sculpture featured the curly-haired singer belly dancing with her arms overhead in a sheer skirt with shiny aluminum decor.
“She’s an honor for us all and this is the hometown where she belongs”- another person mentioned. But fans felt a little more effort could have been taken to make the statue seem more lifelike. Do you agree?
