President Biden has upped his war of words with Putin as he called the Russian president a dictator and accused him of committing genocide in Ukraine.
Following Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, the West, including the US, the UK, and the EU, has repeatedly condemned Russia’s actions and imposed a series of sanctions in response to the war in Ukraine.
Now, President Biden has for the first time accused Putin of committing genocide while branding him as a dictator and a war criminal while addressing the oil price spike at the POET Bioprocessing facility in Iowa on Tuesday.
“Your family budget, your ability to fill up your tank – none of it should hinge on whether a dictator declares war and commits genocide a half a world away,” Biden said as he presented his plans for keeping up with the oil demand.
Following his speech and just moments before his return to the White House, Biden doubled down on accusing Putin of genocide.
“I called it genocide because it’s become clearer and clearer that Putin is just trying to wipe out even the idea of being Ukrainian. The evidence is mounting,” he told the reporters before boarding Air Force One.
Biden’s remarks come just over a week after he branded Putin as a war criminal and blasted the atrocities in Ukraine – Bucha in particular.
“He is a war criminal. But we have to gather the information. We have to continue to provide Ukraine with the weapons they need to continue to fight and we have to get all the detail so this could be – actual have a war crimes trial. This guy is brutal and what’s happening in Bucha is outrageous and everyone’s seen it,” the 46th US President said on April 4.
