A high school senior from Florida passed away after getting caught in a recent rip current just days before he was ready to graduate.
During his stay at the beach with a group of classmates after school on Friday, the student was said to be pulled from the water for a few minutes.
Captain Joe Abollo confirmed to People magazine how officials started to receive calls for help at about 1:41 pm local time. He shared how other beachgoers pulled the teenagers from the water and began carrying out CPR before the first responders arrived on the scene.
School officials shared online how, despite efforts to save that student, he passed away at the hospital. The student was identified as the only Calvin in tribute photos that were published to the school’s social media account who was also a member of the high school band.
The loss deeply impacts the Shark family, as shared by school officials. ‘Our thoughts and hearts are with the student’s family, pals, and everyone that happens to be grieving at this time’- the reports shared.
The graduating class of 2025 is all set to receive the diplomas on May 15, as per the school’s website.
