Nearly 100 people were killed after a roof collapsed at a nightclub in the Dominican Republic, which included a singer and two professional baseball players.
Renowned Dominican merengue singer Rubby Perez was on the stage at the time when the popular Jet Set nightclub’s roof fell shortly after midnight yesterday.
His manager did confirm that he was among those killed in the disaster, noting that Perez’s team is waiting for the children to reach an agreement for his funeral.
Meanwhile, retired Major League Baseball player Octavio Dotel, who was the winner of the World Series in 2011 with the St Louis Cardinals, is also said to have been killed. Dotel was rescued alive, but his injuries were severe, and as a result, he passed away while being taken to the hospital.
A black and white image of the player and images of the Dominican flag were projected across the scoreboard at Citi Field in New York before Tuesday’s game between the New York Mets and Miami Marlins.
Tony Blanco was reportedly killed while trying to save his friend and former baseball player Esteban Germany from getting hit by fallen debris. While Blanco ended up getting killed, German was able to survive miraculously.
