Olympic gold medalist Imane Khelif is now going to the highest court over a decision made by the Wold Boxing Federation to ban her from its events.
The controversial gender row boxer says that it is highly unfair and unjust as it’s being done without any preliminary genetic gender test.
The appeal seeks to overturn the ruling and enable the female boxer from Algeria to compete at the 2025 World Boxing Championships between September 4 and 14 without having the test done.
It added how a request to suspend the decision to bar Khelif was made until the case is heard, but that was dismissed on Monday.
“The parties are currently exchanging written submissions, and with that agreement, a hearing would be scheduled,” the party revealed.
Khelif filed her appeal against the World Boxing decision to block her from any of their events until she had undergone a genetic gender testing on August 5. The 26 year old won the women’s welterwight gold medal in the French capital last year in the summer after being cleared to compete by the IOC.
This is despite the fact that the IBA had banned her from the past year’s World Championships after explaining that gender chromosome tests had ruled her ineligible.
