The 76-year-old Terminator star was flying from Los Angeles to Munich to attend a planned climate change charity auction in the European country.

According to BILD, the actor was stopped by German customs officials who launched a criminal probe over the unregistered luxury watch that Arnie wanted to auction for charitable purposes.

“We have initiated criminal proceedings under tax law. The watch should have been registered because it is an import,” Munich Main Customs Office confirmed in a statement.

An insider speaking to SZ added: “If the goods remain in the EU, you have to declare them through customs. This applies to everyone, whether their name is Schwarzenegger or Müller, Meier, Huber.”

After getting apprehended by the customs, the former governor of California remained detained for three hours.

And while he agreed to pre-pay potential taxes, Schwarzenegger struggled to get the large sum because the customs’ credit card reader didn’t work. He could also not withdraw the entire sum via ATM because of the withdrawal limits.

The problem was only fixed once another credit card machine was brought to the scene, allowing Arnie to pay the required amount and continue on his way.

“He cooperated at every step even though it was an incompetent shakedown, a total comedy of errors that would make a very funny cop movie,” a source told People.

“The officers failed to use a credit card machine for an hour until they gave up and brought Arnold to a bank and asked him to withdraw cash from an ATM to pay.

“The ATM they brought him to had a limit too low and the bank was closed. When he returned, a new officer brought a new credit card machine that worked.”
