The Secret Service shot a man during an armed confrontation near the White House on Sunday.
The incident arose just hours after midnight, about a block west of the White House near the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.
Sources from local media outlets shared more on the matter, including a new statement where they explained how the individual had full plans to commit suicide and was traveling to Washington D.C., near Indiana.
At about midnight, members of the Secret Service squad encountered the man’s parked car near the 17th and F Streets, NW, and saw a person matching his description nearby.
As officers approached him, the individual brandished a firearm and an armed confrontation began. During this incident, shots were fired by the secret service squad, the statement mentioned.
The suspect was reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital and his condition is not known right now, but speculations arose that he succumbed to his injuries.
There were no reported injuries to the Secret Service personnel, sources shared. The Metropolitan Police Department will now be leading an investigation into the shooting since they are the main agency responsible within the district of Columbia.
President Trump was not president inside the White House at the time, per his schedule. The president is expected to leave Mar-a-Lago estate today at 5pm and return back to the capital.
