Apple has come under fire after hundreds of concerned users reported issues with extreme overheating of their devices.
The reported issues concern the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models which come at the price of $999 and above in the States.
Experts, self-proclaimed experts, and everyday users have since taken matters into their own hands and used thermometers to measure the exterior temperature of their phones and post results on social media.
In many cases, the iPhone 15 Pro devices reached soaring temperatures of up to 108 degrees Fahrenheit with users complaining they were unable to hold their devices after performing basic tasks like a 5-minute call.
“It gets so hot that I’m afraid to touch it, and it hurts my leg in my pocket,” one concerned customer shared.
“I’ve done a full re-reset and restore even tried making a phone call before I restore from my backup, and it’s the same thing every time,” another said.
A third posted a picture showing the measured temperature of the phone’s exterior reaching 42.2 degrees Celsius or 108 degrees Fahrenheit.
“Does anyone else have this problem with their new iPhone 15? It literally gets to a point where it hurts/burns my hand when using the phone because of how hot it gets,” they wrote.
A Twitter account called AppleLeaker went on to suggest that the Instagram app could be responsible for the model’s uncontrollable overheating.
Reporting the issue was also a Chinese tech blogger known as Geekerwan who said: “The iPhone 15 Pro’s surface temperature set a new record in my experience with iPhones, reaching a staggering 48°C [118].”
While the reason behind these issues remains unclear, industry experts suggested that overheating might be a result of “compromises made in the thermal system design to achieve a lighter weight.”
