Two National Guardsmen were critically wounded after being shot in an ambush-style attack while patrolling the streets of Washington, DC.

Donald Trump vowed to punish the animal responsible for the cowardly shooting that left both soldiers critically injured. Graphic scenes showed them being covered in blood and stretchered out to the nearby hospital.

The President has ordered 300 more troops to safeguard the capital, while other leading cities such as New York City have been put on alert, and citizens are being advised to exercise caution.

Trump shared how anyone trying to harm the nation would pay a very steep price, as the gunman is also said to be hospitalized and battling for his life after being wounded in the incident.

The President is currently in Florida for Thanksgiving, and he vowed revenge just shortly after the horrific shooting occurred at 2:30 pm ET on Wednesday.

Panicked tourists were forced to flee for their lives shortly after the shots rang out at the corner of the 17th and H Streets in the northwest quadrant of the city, which is roughly two blocks northwest of the White House.
