BREAKING: ‘American Idol’ Winner Has Been Announced


American Idol Season 21 has come to an end and a new champion has been crowned.

The top three contestants of the beloved competition show included Megan Danielle, Colin Stough, and Iam Tongi.

After a nerve-wracking three-hour wait, votes were counted and Iam Tongi has been named the American Idol’s new reigning champion. Megan Danielle was named as the runner-up, whereas Colin Stough took third place.

The 18-year-old aspiring singer won the hearts of the people by delivering a captivating performance of his original song called ‘I’ll Be Seeing You.’

After he was named the winner, Tongi also performed a touching rendition of ‘Don’t Let Go’ as his proud family and members of the audience watched on.

Previously, the young musician reduced the judges to tears as he sang ‘Monsters’ in dedication to his father who died just months before his son’s American Idol audition.

“I was not worried about whether you were going to make it through the song, I was worried about whether we were going to make it through the song. Your daddy is very proud,” Lionel Richie told the young man after his performance.

“What a fantastic song to pick. You’re making these grown men cry,” Katy Perry added.

Weighing in on the performance was also Luke Bryan who said: “I cannot handle your heart breaking about your dad because my nephew lost his dad and he came to live with me and just seeing you missing your dad sucks.

“Gosh man, you’ve got a great voice. You did everything perfectly and I love you and want to see you have fun.”

Perry previously praised the young contestant in an interview with PEOPLE as she admitted it appeared Iam was born to sing.

“The sound in the room when Iam comes on is undeniable. He’s an undeniable character. He’s just kind of got this incredible magic. You almost can’t explain it. It’s an it factor. It’s like you’re born to do this, and it’s undeniable,” she said.
