JUST IN: Amber Heard REACTS To The Verdict And Says She Feels Her Freedom Of Speech As An American ‘Has Been Lost’


Amber Heard reacted to the verdict and said that she feels her freedom of speech as an American ‘has been lost’ after her ex-husband Johnny Depp won the defamation suit against her.

The Aquaman star released a statement on Twitter and expressed her disappointment, saying she was left heartbroken that the amount of evidence provided was not enough.

“The disappointment I feel today is beyond words. I’m heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband,” she said.

Heard, 36, also said that this was ‘a setback’ for women ‘to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke out could be publicly shamed and humiliated.’

The actress also blamed Depp’s attorney Camille Vasquez and his other lawyers.

“I believe Johnny’s attorneys succeeded in getting the jury to overlook the key issue of Freedom of Speech and ignore evidence that was so conclusive that we won in the UK,” Heard said.

“I’m sad I lost this case. But I am sadder still that I seem to have lost a right I thought I had as an American – to speak freely and openly,” she added.

Our of the $100 million Heard was seeking in her countersuit against the Pirates of the Caribbean star, she was awarded $2 million in compensatory damages.

The jury awarded Depp $15million but the judge reduced the punitive damages to maximum $350,000. The actor will only receive $8.35 million after paying Heard.

Meanwhile, Johnny Depp thanked the “outpouring of love and the colossal support and kindness from around the world.”

“I hope that my quest to have the truth be told will have helped others, men or women, who have found themselves in my situation, and that those supporting them never give up,” Depp said in his statement.

“I also hope that the position will now return to innocent until proven guilty, both within the courts and in the media.”
