A terrifying inferno at a popular shopping mall in Iraq has left more than 60 people dead.
According to reports from local media outlets, the fire ripped through the mall, with one survivor sharing the horror of the incident.
They claimed that it began after the air conditioner unit exploded, leading to a mighty blast and massive fire.
Officials have recently rolled out an investigation into this matter at the newly opened six storey Corniche Hypermarket Mall in the city of Kut where many were said to be busy shopping last night.
The blaze began on the building’s first floor before tearing up the whole block, with horrifying video displaying the block getting engulfed by massive flames and smoke.
Horrifying footage circulated on social media showed people on the roof as the flames rose up to the building. It’s still not clear whether or not they were rescued.
Chilling images showed first responders doing everything to try to get people out safely, as per local media reports. Ambulances were still taking casualties to the hospital until 4 am local time.
The aftermath of the building showed the remains completely blackened and burned out, and firefighters were still said to be present at the scene. Most of those who died were said to have suffocated inside bathrooms.
