In the short film called ‘An Irish Goodbye,’ Martin portrays a young man named Lorcan who reunites with his estranged brother after their mother’s untimely passing.

While the 2022 drama movie was a big success, James remains humble and determined to return to his everyday job for the time being.

“I help out with all the customers. I’ve been doing that a long time. It’s nice,” the young man previously said of his responsibilities at the coffee chain store.

On Sunday night, Martin was joined on the Oscars stage by the movie’s co-director Tom Berkeley to accept an award for their short film.

“This award is actually the second most important thing about today because it’s James’ birthday,” Tom announced.

“He’s out here in Hollywood wearing a leopard-print suit jacket. We would love to use the rest of our time up here to sing to James.”

The gesture was well-accepted by the 31-year-old who gave the audience a big thumbs up as they began to sing the happy birthday song to him.

“I always tell people, never judge a book by its cover, we’re all human beings we know how to act,” Martin, who has Down’s Syndrome, previously told ITV.
