Imagine you are on your honeymoon in the most beautiful places of the earth and it never ends.
This happened to a couple who went to the Maldives for their honeymoon but were trapped there because airports in their country were shut down due to the spread of the coronavirus disease.
Twenty-seven-year-old Olivia and twenty-eight-year-old Raul De Freitas from South Africa decided to go to the Maldives for six days after they got married. They were to stay in the Cinnamon Velifushi Maldives from 22nd March for 6 days.
The duo had checked with their travel agent prior to leaving for the Maldives because of travel restrictions in various countries and left only after they were sure that they would be able to return to South Africa.
However, that was not the case and this couple is now stuck for an unknown period of time in the Maldives. Olivia said that it was incredible that they got extra time.
She added that the couple has been receiving a generous discount at their resort against the actual $750 per night. However, every single day is eating up their savings.
Olivia further said that everyone wished to be stuck in such a heavenly place until they were actually stuck. She noted that this sounded good as they know they could leave.
On the fourth day of the couple’s honeymoon, they were notified that all the airports in South Africa would be closed by midnight. But they would not reach in time.
Furthermore, at the same time, Maldives had announced lockdown in the country as well, banning all tourists. So, the couple feared if they decided to leave the resort, they may not be allowed again in the resort.
