It is indeed an ill time for politicians around the world, with most grappling with the crises in their own countries, worsened every minute in their respective responses.

And then there are women leaders who, almost jarringly it seems, handle the crises so well and so in line with their population that it is inevitable but to laud them at their empathy and the ability to really connect with those suffering in the pandemic, albeit the medical and necessary preventive measures for execution.

One of the most impressive figure among those women is the New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern.point 203 |

And now, she is cutting down her own wages, along with the members of her cabinet, in correspondence to the sufferings of her people, and she had this to say on the subject:

“We acknowledge New Zealanders who are reliant on wage subsidies, taking pay cuts, and losing their jobs as a result of the Covid-19 global pandemic,” Ardern explicitly mentioned this on Wednesday at a press conference she held, “Today, I can confirm that myself and government ministers and public service chief executives will take a 20% pay cut for the next six months.”

She has said that the measure was an example of their will to face the crisis along with the people, not an expression of contractionary fiscal policy that might worry some New Zealanders relying on subsidies and economic support as of now.

“In the face of the greatest threat to human health we have seen in over a century, Kiwis have quietly and collectively implemented a nationwide wall of defense,” Ardern also has mentioned at a state address held recently, lovingly calling the people of New Zealand kiwis and also expressing hope.point 260 |
