The largest online streaming service Netflix has signed a multimillion-dollar deal with Nickelodeon and that might be the precursor of much good news for SpongeBob fans.

Nickelodeon and Netflix are partnering up to create a sequel of SpongeBob that will be centered on Squidward.

From the rumors circulating, it looks like the grumpy guy is going to get a whole series dedicated to him and that’s sort of exciting news for the fans.

According to The New York Times, some sources have confirmed a ‘music-based’ SpongeBob sequel is on its way with the collaboration of Netflix and Nickelodeon.

Keeping in mind that Squidward used to play the clarinet, the whole thing seems to make sense.

However, it is not yet the time to get your hopes too high because nothing has been announced officially by any of the two.

This is, however, not the first time Nickelodeon and Netflix have partnered up for a project.

Earlier this year, the two entertainment giants collaborated to make two movies, Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus and Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling.

Other than the brand new creation by the collaboration of the two, Netflix has also listed some of the content created by Nickelodeon on their streaming service including Sam & Cat and Good Burger.

Deadline has reported that in the future, the two will be collaborating to produce dedicated series on Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle and The Loud House.

Melissa Cob, the vice president of Netflix for original animation, said: “Nickelodeon has generated scores of characters that kids love, and we look forward to telling wholly original stories that re-imagine and expand on the worlds they inhabit.

“We’re thrilled to continue collaborating with Brian Robbins, Ramsey Naito, and the creative team at Nickelodeon in new ways as we look to find fresh voices and bring bold stories to our global audience on Netflix.”

The partnership has commenced at the same time as Disney has launched its own streaming service Disney+ in America.

For Disney, the newly launched streaming service has been a great success as it has touched 10 million subscribers on the very first day, far beyond any of the predictions. In fact, the company was not even technically prepared to welcome such a mammoth influx of subscribers.

Disney+ talked about this in a tweet that said: “The demand for #DisneyPlus has exceeded our highest expectations.

“We are so pleased you’re excited to watch all your favorites and are working quickly to resolve any current issues. We appreciate your patience.”

Experts had suggested that the company would take a year to reach the 10 million mark so the technical difficulties faced by the company make sense.
