Netflix is about to release a new crime thriller, named Criminal, exploring what goes down in the intensely dramatic settings of a police interrogation room.

The trailer of the series gives off vibes which can reasonably be assumed to be a mix of Mindhunter and Black Mirror, and also provides the first look of the cast.

Netflix will be releasing the series on September 20, 2019.

The 12-episode thriller may be set up in a dimly lit interview room, but it promises much more than the usual “good cop, bad cop” trope.

The series’ tagline reads: “12 unique crime stories, 4 countries, one chance to uncover the truth.”

The crime drama stars David Tennant, Emma Suárez, and Hayley Atwell, and is produced by Jim Field Smith (The Wrong Mans, Endeavour) and George Kay (The Hour, Killing Eve).

“Psychological games abound between detectives and suspects in a tense interrogation room, where the search for answers sometimes comes at a moral cost,” the show’s official synopsis says.

Netflix

“Criminal is a police procedural with a unique premise: it takes place exclusively within the confines of a police interview suite.

“This stripped down, cat-and-mouse drama will focus on the intense mental conflict between the police officer and the suspect in question.”

Given the Netflix users’ obsession with the crime genre, the upcoming series has already found a number of fans.
