A 98-year-old woman, who has been living on the same street in Redditch, Worcestershire for 68 years, was forced to celebrate her 98th birthday alone amid coronavirus lockdown.
However, when her 30-year-old neighbor Chris Carr found out that it was her neighbor Barbara Bakewell’s 98th birthday a day before and she celebrated it alone, he gathered neighbors to sing Happy Birthday to her.
When Chris, a former soldier and Afghanistan veteran, asked the neighbors to join in to celebrate Barbara’s 98th birthday, the kind-hearted neighbors agreed immediately.

Chris said: ‘The video was filmed at the Batchley Estate in Redditch, and I knocked on every single door in our close. Obviously, given the current pandemic, I maintained a social distance while I was out knocking doors and every single member of our community agreed to come and sing.”
He told the neighbors how Barbara celebrated her 98th birthday alone and they all happily agreed to sing Happy Birthday to her.
However, when Chris asked Barbara to come out so the neighbors could wish her a Happy Birthday, she told him to wait so she could put on some lipstick.
She said: ‘Let me go put my lippy on!’
Chris praised the neighbors for coming out on his request to wish Barbara a Happy Birthday.
He said he now feels closer to his neighbors as he now stops to talk to them whenever he goes out for walking his dog.
He said: “I think that before this pandemic everyone was so consumed with their jobs and their own individual lives we never took the time to actually stop and take a breath and see how beautiful this world is.”
The heart-melting video of the neighbors singing Happy Birthday to the elderly woman has now gone viral on the Internet and touched everyone’s heart.
