In 1970, a terrible case was presented to scientists and psychologists in which a young girl was unable to speak and walk properly due to severe social isolation and child abuse in her childhood.
Genie, the victim of horrific neglect from her father, was taken to the Los Angeles welfare office by her mother, where the authorities discovered that the poor girl cannot talk or walk properly.
The mother of this little girl was suffering from a cataract and went to the welfare to get the services offered to the blind citizens of the country.
This little girl caught the eye of an officer due to her peculiar movements. Later, when observed keenly, it was discovered that she can understand only two sentences that include ‘no more’ and ‘stop it.’ It was due to the severe neglect and abuse she suffered as a baby.
Clark, the father of this little girl, thought that she was mentally disabled. He used to bound her in her crib or toilet when she was just 20 months old. Since then, she faced multiple events including locking up in her room with a wire cover around her crib. She was also malnourished to a dangerous extent.
According to a source, Clark was not in favor of having children that caused him to do this.
Dorothy and Clark lost their first child when he was abandoned in a garage.Their second child did not survive due to some complications at the time of his birth.
Their third child, who is Genie’s elder brother, survived, fortunately, but their last born, Genie, faced a lot in her childhood, due to the controlling personality of her father.Later, Genie was treated by many doctors, scientists, and psychologists and transferred to a foster house. She spent many years with her foster parents, but on turning 18, she decided to move back to live with her real mother.
