Parents Of Neglected Baby Won’t Be Charged For ‘Accidental’ Death Of Their Toddler

Parents of the 21-month-old baby boy who was found hanging dead will likely not be charged with murder as “there’s nothing in the investigation that shows they caused his death” despite investigators discovering that the child was severely abused while he was still alive.

21-month-old Rowan Cannette died from what appeared as ‘accidental hanging’ according to the reports. Allegedly, his head was stuck in the sofa with his body dangling in the gap between the sofa and the wall.

While the investigators believe his death was accidental, they have discovered severe signs of abuse on the boy’s body.

Besides bruises all over his body, the toddler also had a series of burn marks on his feet and several bite marks on his face.

According to the detailed analysis of the injuries inflicted by the boy’s parents, the investigators determined that the marks were at different healing stages, clearly indicating that the abuse occurred on several occasions.

Nevertheless, 27-year-old Casandra Lopresto and Thomas Cannette are believed to be innocent when it comes to Rowan’s passing and will face no charges over his death.

They are, however, facing three counts of child neglect and a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison.

According to Prosecutor Herman Cox, the investigators found meth in the bloodstreams of the couple’s remaining children, a 3-year-old girl, and a 2-year-old boy.

“Meth got into their bloodstreams, and the expert who performed the test said the only way that can happen is through ingestion, not by being present when meth is smoked,” the prosecutor revealed.

Cigarette burns were also found on the 3-year-old girl’s feet. According to Casandra and Thomas, however, they know nothing about the alleged abuse and claim that the burn marks derive from splinters.

Additionally, the prosecutor pointed out that “the couple had been locking the children in their room because, as Mr. Cannette said, his 3-year-old son would get into the icebox and tear everything up.”

“I don’t know what the parents were thinking,” Cox added.

“All the evidence of different types of abuse shows these parents knowingly allowed the continuing physical abuse of their children. It’s just disgusting.”
