NBA Player Diagnosed With Covid-19 After Touching Mics During Conference


The NBA has suspended the 2019-20 season until further notice after Rudy Gobert of Utah Jazz tested positive for coronavirus.

Mr. Gobert, who plays a center, was diagnosed with Covid-19 shortly after appearing to mock coronavirus outbreak by touching all microphones with his hands during a press conference.

“The NBA is suspending game play following the conclusion of tonight’s schedule of games until further notice,” the announcement read.

“The NBA will use this hiatus to determine next steps for moving forward in regard to the coronavirus pandemic.”

As for Mr. Gobert, he apologized to everyone he may have endangered with his reckless behavior while making the jest and taking the outbreak lightly.

“I have gone through so many emotions since learning of my diagnosis … mostly fear, anxiety, and embarrassment,” the NBA All-Star player wrote in his public apology.

“The first and most important thing is I would like to publicly apologize to the people that I may have endangered. At the time, I had no idea I was even infected. I was careless and make no excuse.”

While the NBA star received a major backlash after his reckless actions, some members of the media saw his actions as a show of support.

“On the Rudy Gobert microphone incident: at the time, I actually took it as a measure of support for the media,” Salt Lake Tribune’s Andy Larsen shared.

“We were being told to keep 6-8 feet away from them on the assumption that we might infect a player. I thought it was Rudy thumbing his nose at the separation between us.

“It was obviously reckless, but heck, nearly everyone I know has made a coronavirus distance joke at some point this week.”
