Crozier was dismissed in a press release by Navy Secretary Thomas Modly. Modly said that they believe Crozier has lost his leadership skills in reference to how he had reacted to the coronavirus situation. There had been 132 reported positive cases of the virus on board.

On March 30th, Crozier had written a memorandum seeking help. He had pleaded for permission to isolate the crew of Roosevelt’s 4,000+ members. The memorandum was leaked and published by the San Francisco Chronicle.

Roosevelt is standing on the port of Guam for a long time now. The ship had an outbreak of the virus but only a very few sailors were allowed to get off-board for isolation.

Crozier had said that it is almost impossible to maintain social distancing and safety on board.

He said that due to the small area on the ship, the virus was spreading and escalating.

He says that deploying crew members from an aircraft carrier may seem an extraordinary step to be taken but it is important.

The crew members are needed to be kept in quarantine. Because no one knows who is going to test positive after living in such close proximity with sailors who have tested positive for the virus.
