20,000 National Guard troops have reportedly been drafted to maintain order in Washington, DC and ensure a smooth transition of power to Biden.
Ahead of Inauguration Day, thousands of troops have been dispatched to protect democracy from potential riots in the days to follow.
Following the deadly insurrection at the US Capitol last week, the authorities have been preparing to deal with threats and counter potential attacks at Capitol Hill before and during Joe Biden’s inauguration.
According to the reports, some 50 private and federal agencies, including the National Guard and the FBI, have established a Multi-Agency Command Center led by the Secret Service to prepare for the inauguration by fortifying the Capitol grounds and the White House.
As part of tight security measures, an anti-climbing fence has been erected around Capitol grounds while additional security fencing takes place at the White House. Meanwhile, road closures have been established around both locations, whereas troops are patrolling the area.
In pictures from the Capitol, hundreds of soldiers armed to the teeth are seen spread out throughout the building where they appear to have established a temporary camp.
So far, the authorities have already warned of three potential attacks on the Capitol, whereas one organized group of 4,000 self-proclaimed patriots is reportedly planning on blocking Democrats from entering the Capitol.
Speaking of the incoming inauguration, Michael Plati of the US Secret Service vowed to keep security breaches at bay on January 20.
Warning potential rioters to stay away from trouble was also Acting US Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen who said there will be “no tolerance whatsoever for any attempts to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power.”
“I want to send a clear message to anyone contemplating violence, threats of violence or other criminal conduct: We will have no tolerance whatsoever for any attempts to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power… including attempts to forcefully occupy government buildings.
There will be no excuse for violence, vandalism or any other form of lawlessness,” Rosen said.
