Bubba Wallace, the NASCAR driver who found a noose in his garage, was not a victim of a hate crime according to the FBI who investigated the case.
According to the bureau, the noose that Mr. Wallace had found in Garage #4 that he has recently been assigned to had been there since 2019.
As per the FBI investigation, the noose discovered in Wallace’s garage had been there since October last year whereas the driver has just been assigned to the garage in question last week.
“The FBI learned that garage number 4, where the noose was found, was assigned to Bubba Wallace last week. The investigation also revealed evidence, including authentic video confirmed by NASCAR, that the noose found in garage number 4 was in that garage as early as October 2019,” the agency revealed in a statement.
“Although the noose is now known to have been in garage number 4 in 2019, nobody could have known Mr. Wallace would be assigned to garage number 4 last week.”
While Wallace did not yet comment on the bureau’s findings to our knowledge, NASCAR responded to the agents by saying they feel thankful to find out “that this was not an intentional, racist act against Bubba.”
“We remain steadfast in our commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all who love racing,” the company added in a statement.
