An NAACP chapter president has sparked a heated debate after suggesting “there’s no such thing as BLUE LIVES” in his tweet following the shooting of two Los Angeles sheriffs.

Speaking of his rejection of Blue Lives Matter in a tweet following shortly after two LA cops were ambushed and shot, Talbert W. Swan II, a preacher and the president of the Massachusetts NAACP chapter, suggested people shouldn’t compare a career path to skin color.

“There’s no such thing as BLUE LIVES. Stop comparing your JOB with my LIFE. Your CAREER is a choice, my BLACKNESS isn’t,” the critic wrote in his tweet.

Less than an hour after his initial comment about Blue Lives, Bishop Talbert Swan doubled down on his earlier statement as he slammed people for not seeing “the hypocrisy in expressing outrage” over the LA officers that got shot.

“Something is wrong in America when white people can’t see the hypocrisy in expressing outrage and tweeting #BlueLivesMatter over two cops being shot only 17 days after they applauded and raised over $1 million to defend a white supremacist who murdered two #BLM protesters,” the preacher wrote.

While Swan’s comments were met with thousands of likes and plenty of positive feedback, some users have accused the NAACP chapter president of spreading hate.

As some critics of the comments have suggested, police officers put their lives on the line in order to save the lives of people of all colors. Others have also argued that the actions of bad officers don’t reflect the actions of everyone on the force.
