Watch the musician singing with the song’s original artist
Clint “Kekoa” Alama always dreamt of becoming a famous musician. He was playing his ukulele in Honolulu Coffee Kona in Hawaii when a stranger approached him.
Clint was playing Matisyahu’s ‘One Day’, a single from 2009 when a stranger started singing along.
Little did Clint know the person who was singing along was a famous singer.
The stranger was Matisyahu whose song he was playing.
The video was recorded by Matisyahu’s bassist Stu Brooks who later said: “Matisyahu was taking in the local sounds last Friday in Hawaii when he heard a familiar tune. It was a street performer on ukulele, jamming to 2009’s “One Day.” “Do you know who wrote that song?” Matisyahu asks.”
“Matis,” Alama answers. “I’m Matisyahu,” the Jewish reggae artist replied. Pretty good timing, to say the least. Matisyahu was in town to headline the MayJah RayJah Music Festival and gifted a set of guest passes to Alama, no doubt making the ukulele player’s day.”
“Oh, shoots, it’s you! What’s up, my brother? You look different, kid!” said Clint.
He didn’t know that he was singing the song with its original artist. It really made his day!
Matisyahu then gave Clint tickets for his night’s show and he also flew him to LA to perform with him at the Palladium.
The heartwarming video was shared online and received thousands of likes and comments.
One user wrote: ‘Matisyahu has such a kind heart and soul. He not only gives him tickets to the show but flew him out to LA after that to open for him. Great guy, great music.’
Another wrote: ‘This video made me into a fan of Matisyahu. No telling how many more he got from this video. Makes me smile every time I watch it. A Jewish Reggae artist, — what’s not to love about that? !!!’
