The second person linked to the murder of the retired police captain who was shot while defending his friend’s shop from looters has been charged.
77-year-old David Dorn was a former police captain who was shot and killed outside a pawn shop of his friend amid violent protests in St. Louis, Missouri.
According to the reports, Mr. Dorn arrived at Lee’s Pawn & Jewelry, his friend’s pawnshop, to make sure it was protected from armed looters who were sweeping across the city amid violent protests.
After arriving at the scene, Dorn was fatally shot whereas his death was live-streamed on Facebook with the footage later getting deleted.
Following the elderly man’s tragic death, 24-year-old Stephan Cannon has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder among other charges including robbery and armed criminal actions.
Now, days later, another culprit linked to the murder, 22-year-old Mark Jackson, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and robbery among other charges.
According to the official documents, Cannon, Jackson, and another accomplice were caught on CCTV escaping the crime scene following the shooting of the retired police captain.
Speaking of the “fine captain” who died prematurely, St. Louis police commissioner John W. Hayden Jr. said:
“Many of us, the other officers, looked up to him. [He] was very well-liked, very pleasant. And his wife still works here. So, a very sad time for our agency. We will honor him.”
On the same night Captain Dorn got shot and killed, four other cops in the city got shot while dozens of businesses got looted and vandalized by rioters.
