An MP was caught looking at x-rated photos on his phone during a budget reading in Bangkok.
Reporters managed to take a photo of MP Ronnathep Anuwat looking at the images for more than ten minutes in parliament.
According to reports, he removed his face mask to get a better look at the images. One photo shows a naked woman lying on her side, another shows a topless woman, and another reveals a woman’s private part.
When asked about the incident, Anuwat said he received messages from a woman who was ‘asking for help.’
He explained that he just wanted to ‘observe the environment surrounding the girl in the picture’ as he thought she was ‘being harassed by gangsters who had forced her to take the pictures.’
But after realizing that the woman was asking for money, he decided to delete the photos.
Authorities summoned Anuwat for explanations and it was decided that no further action would be taken against him.
Chuan Leekpai, house speaker, said the photos were a ‘personal matter’ and were no rules yet regarding what MPs could check on their devices during meetings.
In addition, he said no MPs had complained about the incident so no further action would be taken.
Leekpai also urged the people to separate personal matters from the duties of MPs.
In 2012, Bangkok MP Nat Bantadtan was also caught watching porn on his phone during a constitutional amendment.
He said the content was only sent to him by a friend but he closed it the moment he realized what it was.
In 2017, Ukraine MP Vyacheslav Konstantinovsky was also caught watching x-rated videos during a debate.
He admitted it was an ‘inappropriate location’ to watch but he added: “At least I wasn’t playing Pokemon Go.”
