If you were always questioning if you should be cutting back on your fast food habit, this story might finally convince you to make a decision.

Patrons of a Whataburger branch in Bastrop, Texas, became witness to a fascinating but gross drama after a mouse that crew members were trying to catch fell into the deep fryer after it made a bid to escape.

Whataburger is as much a staple of the Texas fast-food landscape as In-n-Out is in California and Shake Shack is in New York especially when it comes to late-night meals after a few drinks. But Texans might reconsider their patronage after this bizarre occurrence over the weekend.

Brushawn Lewis was in line at the Bastrop Whataburger branch when he and other customers espied a mouse on the counter. “Alright y’all, whoever paid for their food will get their money back,” a Whataburger employee told them.

It’s bad enough to find a mouse on the counter. But what happened next transformed the incident into almost urban legend levels.

After the mouse was spotted, employees try to catch it, making it run on top of trays and metal containers, including one that looked like it held onion rings. But wait, there’s more.

A video that Lewis took shows one of the crews trying to trap the mouse by turning over some containers. However, mice are clever and determined creatures despite their small size. This one zig and zags until it decides to take a huge leap for freedom…only to land straight into the deep fryer.

Screams of “Oh my God!” and “Deep-fried rat!” soon follow and all hell really breaks loose. The customers suggest scooping out the mouse but one of the Whataburger employees didn’t know how to turn the fryer off or was too flustered to remember how.
