At an inquest, Black Country area coroner Joanne Lees blamed the hospital for the death of the water birth baby after it was found that six failings took place during the birth of the baby.

The hospital didn’t have waterproof equipment available so they couldn’t monitor the baby’s heart rate.

Coroner Lees said if there were no waterproof equipment available, Ms. Johnson should not have been allowed to have given birth in a pool.

The resuscitation procedure carried out on the baby was also found to be incorrect.

The mother now wants to warn other parents so no one goes through the same.

The baby’s mother Joanne Johnson said: “We now have some answers but sadly it doesn’t lessen our grief.”

Ms. Johnson said that for the last nearly three and a half years, they had so many unanswered questions.

Ms. Johnson and Zachary’s father Steven always wondered why their baby boy died.

They first found out that there were problems with the hospital after Zachary died but they didn’t know the severity of the failures.

She said: “Myself, Steven, our daughters, and our families still have to live every day without Zachary here with us, knowing he should be.”

She said Zachary’s death was caused by the neglect of Walsall Healthcare Trust during and after his birth.

Now, she wants to raise awareness to prevent other families from suffering the same condition as it was devastating.

She says it is not going to lessen their grief but she doesn’t want other parents to go through this.
