The mother who gave birth to twin girls on Valentine’s Day 5 years ago did it again this year! Just what are the odds?

40-year-old Joanna Gregory gave birth to Ava and Ella eight weeks early after they were delivered via caesarian section.

What made her so delighted was that the twins were born on the fifth birthday of Lola and Lexie, her first twins who also arrived on Valentine’s Day.

“We will certainly never forget their birthdays — and Chris better not forget Valentine’s Day. The whole things feels magical,” Joanna expressed.

Ava and Ella had been due on April 7 but as Joanna’s pregnancy progressed, medics became concerned about one of the girls’ weight.

The pregnant mom was admitted to a hospital in Wales before she was transferred to a neo-natal intensive care unit in Newport where she had emergency C-section on Valentine’s Day.

Speaking about Ella and Ava, Joanna said: “They were very weak and needed oxygen and to be put on drips. I was unable even to cuddle them and it was hours before I could see them. It was heartbreaking, but necessary.

“Lola and Lexie were very small, but Ella and Ava are even smaller.”

She continued: “The first time we could pick them up and cuddle them was three days later in the intensive care unit. Chris and I had tears in our eyes, they were so small.

“But they would not have survived if it hadn’t been for the staff at both hospitals — they saved their lives. They are unbelievable and I can’t thank them enough.

“The first few days were really difficult as Ella was in the intensive care unit at Newport while Ava was well enough to be taken back to Carmarthen. It has been hard not to have them together. But Ella needed a lot more care.”

When Ella improved, the twins were finally reunited. “It’s wonderful they are back together,” Joanna expressed.

“Ava is now off oxygen and is sucking milk, which is really early for a baby born that premature. We are hoping Ella will be just a couple of days behind,” she added.

Her husband, Chris, said: “Having twins didn’t run in the family — but it does now. When we had Lexie and Lola it was a lovely surprise.

“This time round people had been joking that we would have twins again, but we never thought we would.

“It was a shock when we were told our second set of twins were on the way. But again it was a lovely surprise, they are gorgeous.”
