A mother has been dubbed an ‘idiot parent’ after placing her baby on a live train track for a picture.
A British family has been facing backlash and calls for punishment after parents placed a toddler on an active railway track for the sake of a picture.
The incident took place at Harlech in Gwynedd, North Wales, where careless parents placed the young child on the track before moving away and taking a photo of her.
According to the reports, trains on the track in question can come swooping in at 55mph, whereas the crossing where the picture was taken is marked as a high-risk one.
As railway authorities pointed out, this sadly wasn’t an isolated incident. Several other people were spotted lying down on train tracks and taking pictures. A particular spike in such activities was reportedly noted during the pandemic.
In one instance, a group of young adults was spotted sitting and lying on train tracks while posing for selfies.
In another shocking scene, an older woman was seen spreading her arms while lying across a track and having her friend take pictures of her.
Back in May, one teenage girl also sparked fury after resting in the middle of a rail line for the sake of a ‘perfect’ selfie.
As the authorities have warned, trespassing on rail tracks is illegal and punishable by law. On top of a hefty fine, individuals who are caught in the act could also face court.
While only 4 such incidents were allegedly recorded by Network Rail back in 2019, the service reported more than 430 cases since the beginning of the pandemic.
