87-year-old Mother Left In Tears After Receiving Damaged Morrisons Food Box Sent To Her By Her Son Amid Coronavirus Crisis


An 87-year-old woman was left in tears after she received a Morrisons food box which had been destroyed during the delivery.

David Webster and his partner Hayley live in Norfolk while David’s 87-year-old mother lives in County Durham, 240 miles away from him.

David told his mother, Doreen has a hearing impairment and no access to the internet. Amid coronavirus lockdown, David decided to send a Morrisons food box to his mother.

David told the Mirror: “Last week, I decided to order her a Morrisons food box to help her get access to supplies. The website said it would contain eight ready meals that would be delivered via DPD for £30. It sounded perfect.”

However, when Doreen received the hamper, she was left in tears as the box had been destroyed during the delivery.

Doreen called her son and cried because five of the eight meals were destroyed and everything was covered in food.

David said: “All of the ready meals had exploded and she called me in tears.”

David called Morrisons to complain about the damaged food box and the customer services advisor told him that they are not responsible for it.

He was forced to fill a form after the advisor refused to help and talked aggressively.

David said the advisor even told they ‘didn’t care’ and it ‘was nothing to do with them’.

David and his partner Hayley even tried to contact Morrisons on Twitter but they got no reply from them.

However, David has now got a £30 refund but his mother refused to accept a replacement as it was too stressful for her.

David criticized the Morrisons’ customer service as he said he was trying to help his mother who lives alone but Morrisons ruined it completely.

David said: “We’re all supposed to be supporting each other – but Morrisons’ customer service has been appalling. It’s made everything worse. Now she no longer wants us to deliver food and we are concerned.

Morrisons has now apologized for the incident.
