It will be difficult for the world to move forward if it doesn’t open itself to other cultures, education, and willingness to accept things that are different from us.

When a pupil’s mother showed a closed-minded behavior towards learning about Islam and shared it on social media, she received negative remarks from all over the world.

When she found out that her child was being taught about Islam in class, Tara Cali answered her son’s homework by writing a note to his teacher.

The mother then posted about her anger on her local broadcaster’s website as her son was being asked to do homework about the five pillars of Islam. The assignment also contained a QR code that would allow students to listen to a Muslim call to prayer from the Blue Mosque in Istanbul.

Tara wrote on the assignment:

“My son WILL not be part of this in any sort of way. This is bad teaching material. He will NOT partake. If you have a problem with it, call our lawyer… “

She added:

“This is the seventh graders schoolbook here in Bakersfield for history. This is the assignment that accompanied it.”

Her post went viral but not in the way she wanted. Support for education on various religions became the top-rated comments and it became evident that her opinion was in the minority.

One person commented: “The only thing I see here is how closed minded you are. I’m not very religious but last time I checked, Christianity promoted forgiveness, understanding, treating others with respect, and do unto others as you wish to be done unto you.”
